Broadside Music Poster

Broadside Music Poster

Design Brief

Project Description:

The task was to create a logotype based on the literal meaning of a word and incorporating it into an image that also contains the word itself. We chose a song and picked the word by taking meaning from the lyrics and then made a poster with both the selected word and the lyrics working together to make a cohesive poster. Then, using an image with the same color scheme of the first poster, a second poster was created.

Song Interpretation:

The singer is in a relationship with the girl he mentions in the song, however he is unsure of his  love for her. He states that he is losing his focus and every time he thinks he’s got his feelings  for her figured out, he realizes he has nothing figured out at all. He recognizes that he treats her badly and fears that she isn’t being true to herself with how she feels. Essentially, they are in a  failing relationship and they both are no longer in love with each other.

Word Selection:

Unsure

Definition: not feeling, showing, or done with confidence and certainty

Design Process:

To feel unsure is not to feel certain and with that I played with the vertical scale of the letters and made each letter different scales and shifts from the baseline to give it an unsure vibe. I also changed the opacity, with the beginning of the word being at full opacity and it going down with every letter. In the posters I chose to put the different verses in various locations around the word and changed the opacity in order to establish a hierarchy and to link it to the word. Then for the image, I chose a foggy street which gives a feel of uncertainty as you cannot see very far in the image.
